Resurrecting My Blog
My blog was sleeping for a while, but I was busy progressing my skills nevertheless.
In late 2015 I started working for a company which used a SQL database and had an Excel spreadsheet which served as a front-end to that database.
I was building on my previous knowledge of ADODB in Visual Basic and developed some new Excel Forms which could communicate with this database (both read and write). I enjoyed this work quite a lot.
At some point the situation changed and I was told that I would not be able to work with databases as much as before. It was also hinted on my lack of qualification.
Progressing in my knowledge of SQL, I passed the Microsoft certification exam 70-761 Querying Data with Transact-SQL in January 2021 (just before it was retired) but that did not seem to have improved my prospects.
In February 2021, I started studying Data Science at The Open University.
A fellow student has asked me about a step-by-step description of some installation I had done recently, and I decided I best put it on my blog, so I needed to resurrect it.
In the meantime I had re-installed the system on my server twice and had not reinstalled my blog as I was not using it.
Now it turned out that I had to re-write some php code as MySQLi got obsolete so I had to redo everything into PDO. Fortunately, I had used PDO on some other toy projects of mine so I had some acquaintance with it already.
And here we go :) My blog up and running again :)
